Public-sector oil marketing companies have rejected recent concerns about moisture and chloride in E20 petrol, saying extensive tests across the supply chain found no evidence of contamination and that samples met prescribed quality standards.
The companies said chloride is checked at refineries, distilleries, depots, terminals and petrol pumps. More than 100 additional samples selected randomly from refineries reportedly showed chloride at 1 part per million or below.
Petrol stations are also required to conduct regular checks for water contamination and density, with mobile testing laboratories and independent laboratories used in some locations.
The issue matters because E20 is being adopted at scale and consumers need confidence that fuel quality is consistent. A company statement is not a substitute for independent oversight, but the testing chain provides a basis for checking the claim.
Clear publication of test methods, results and complaint procedures would help drivers distinguish a verified quality issue from an unconfirmed report.
